China, Pakistan Pledge Closer Military Ties

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met with Fan Changlong, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, and they came away pledging closer military cooperation between the two countries.

Fan said the Chinese military would like to deepen pragmatic cooperation with the Pakistani military in various areas, as well as contribute to the construction of China-Pakistan economic corridor.
He also said that China is willing to continue strengthening bilateral counter-terrorism cooperation with Pakistan, and safeguarding regional peace and stability together, he added.
Sharif said that the alliance with China is a cornerstone of Pakistan's foreign policy. He thanked China for the support in the areas of infrastructure, energy development and national defense.
Fan also met with General Rashad Mahmood, Pakistan's Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, and Air Force Chief Marshal Sohail Aman.
The leaders of the Pakistani Armed Forces (PAF) said that Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Pakistan in April has catapulted Pakistan-China relations into a new historical era.
The PAF said it is willing to further strengthen the mutually beneficial exchange and cooperation with the Chinese PLA in various fields to further relations between the two countries and their militaries.
Fan added that since Xi's trip to the country, the leaders of the two countries have reached a series of important consensuses on consolidating China-Pakistan traditional friendship, and building a strategic framework for future cooperation.
