Former world light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (30-3-1, 17 KOs) has enlisted the services of legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach to help him prepare for his upcoming rematch with reigning light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (28-0-1, 25 KOs) at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada on Jan. 30, 2016.

Pascal joins the elite group of fighters under Roach's current care, such as current middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, Ruslan Provodnikov, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Jorge Linares, and eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao.

"Freddie Roach is one of the best trainers of all time. It is an honor to work with Freddie," the 33-year-old Haitian-Canadian fighter said, according to ESPN. "I've come to the conclusion that in my corner I needed a new perspective and I thought that Freddie would be the right fit. I realized I need to improve on and correct certain mistakes I made in my loss to Kovalev."

"I'm quite confident that with Freddie in my corner, I will improve, as did Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto under him," he added.

The Kovalev-Pascal rematch is yet to be officially announced, but both fighters are already preparing for another highly anticipated grueling encounter.

Meanwhile, Boxing News 24 reported that the 55-year-old Hall of Famer has vowed to "do anything to help Pascal win against Kovalev".

Pascal was outclassed and knocked out by Kovalev in the eighth round of their first meeting in March at the Bell Centre. Some boxing pundits were quick to criticize the reasoning behind a second fight because it was clear that the Russian is a level above the fallen Canadian.

But now, with Roach in the Pascal's corner, things indeed may get a little bit interesting.

"I will do whatever I can to help Jean win the fight (against Kovalev)," the seven-time Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year said.

However, the article concluded that even with Roach in his corner, Pascal would still be the overwhelming underdog against Kovalev because "he just doesn't have the size, power or chin to match up" with the Krusher as well as the other notable boxers in his division such as Adonis Stevenson, Yunieski Gonzalez, and Artur Beterbiev.
