He was 59 years old when People Magazine voted him the Sexiest Man Alive in 1989, making him the oldest person to receive that feat.
"For once, I'm speechless," he reacted. "It'll all be downhill from here!''
Ten years later, he was voted the "Sexiest Man of the Century." He was also hailed as the "The Greatest Living Scot" and "Scotland's Greatest Living National Treasure".
His role as James Bond in seven Bond films from 1962 to 1983 remains as his most defining character on screen. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in gangster film The Untouchables.
His other notable roles were in the films Marnie, The Name of the Rose, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Murder on the Orient Express.
Following Connery on the list is Oscar-winning actor George Clooney who, at 54, remains the apple of every girl's eyes. Clooney was twice named as People's sexiest man alive, first in 1997 and next in 2006.
Third on the list is Harrison Ford, who was voted the sexiest man in 1998. The 67-year-old actor and avid pilot rose to fame with eponymous role in the Indiana Jones movies and as Han Solo in the Star Wars trilogy.
Denzel Washington, who gained fame for playing real-life characters such as Rubin "Hurricane" Carter in The Hurricane (1999), the title role in Malcolm X (1992), and Frank Lucas in American Gangster (2007), made it to fourth spot. People Magazine named him the Sexiest Man Alive in 1996.
On the fifth spot is 51-year-old Brad Pitt, who twice held the honor in 1995 and 2000 and is best remembered for his roles in Ocean's Eleven (2001), Ocean's Twelve (2004), Ocean's Thirteen (2007), Troy (2004), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) and Moneyball (2011).
Richard Gere, Jeff Bridges, James Brolin, Liam Neeson, and Ralph Fiennes round up the top 10 list.
