It's safe to say that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will easily be the runaway winner at the box-office. The film is already enjoying record-breaking advance ticket sales, an indication that Walt Disney's latest movie could become the new highest-grossing film of all time.

The Force Awakens has already sold the most movie ticket before its release on Fandango, Comcast Corp. unit confirmed.

IMAX Corp., meanwhile, whose digital and large-format screens account for about one-third of sales for the new "Star Wars" film, has doubled its prior pre-sales record of about $9 million, a spokesman said.

A report by Wall Street Journal foresees The Force Awakens to shatter box office records when it hits theatres on Dec. 17.

Theatre owners already decided to stay open 24 hours to accommodate moviegoers for the film's first week. They'll also screen even on offbeat hours, like 2 a.m. and 5 a.m., Wall Street Journal reports.

Hollywood insiders predict The Force Awakens will easily earn more than the $209 million record set by Jurassic World for its first-week screening. Even if the movie does not outdo Jurassic world, the holidays for the two weeks following the movie opening could possibly place it in line with Avatar's $761 million U.S. and Canada gross.

Nevertheless, it's still unsure whether or not The Force Awakens could dethrone Avatar at the global box office. Avatar earned a whopping $2.79 billion worldwide and still remains the highest-grossing film of all time.

If the film succeeds in capturing countries like China and Russia, where "Star Wars" traditionally isn't an established cultural phenomenon, then it could well break Avatar's record.

The Star Wars franchise is the fifth highest-grossing film series, earning a total of $4.38 billion and winning Academy Awards. It is hailed as the most successful film merchandising franchise with a total of $30.7 billion sales, including box-office receipts and proceeds from video games and DVD sales.
