The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 is soaring toward the $110 million mark before weekend hits. The figure is down by 9 percent compared to Mockingjay - Part 1's weekend gross. Nevertheless, if the forecast is true, the fourth and final installment of Lionsgate's colossal Hunger Games franchise is slated to land the top 25 opening weekend of all time, although the film will also hold the record for the lowest opening weekend of the franchise.

The three previous Hunger Games, starring Jennifer Lawrence, already grossed a total of $2.3 billion in worldwide box-office sales. Mockingjay - Part 1 earned $121.9 million for its opening weekend in U.S. The first film earned $152.5 million, while the second earned $158.1 million. Mockingjay 2 is expected to collect $48 million by Friday.
The forecast also reports that Mockingjay - Part 2 is headed toward becoming 2015's fifth-highest grossing movie for a domestic opening, following Jurassic World, which earned $208.8 million, Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.3 million), Furious 7 ($147.2 million) and Minions ($115.7 million).
The movie is praised by critics, giving Mockingjay Part 2 a worthy sendoff for the franchise. Movie aggregator Rotten Tomato gave it a 72 percent fresh rating.
On the other hand, Sony's Night Before, which opened on 2,960 theatres, is expected to earn $4.5 million by Friday, enough to gross $12.5-14 million for its opening week. The film tells the story of three friends who reunite for their traditional Christmas Eve gathering. If it earns a little more, it could compete with The Peanuts Movie on the third spot, following Mockingjay 2 and Spectre.
The Julia Robert and Nicole starrer, Secret in Their Eyes is opening in 2,392 locations and foresees to earn between $7.5 million and $8 million by weekend.
