Michael Brown, a Robbery Suspect Prior to Ferguson Shooting

A local liquor store believed to be where police suspect Michael Brown was involved in the theft of cigars from the store minutes before police officer Darren Wilson shot him dead, stands open in Ferguson, Missouri August 15, 2014.

New information has surfaced on the recent shooting by police in Ferguson, MO. Reports say Michael Brown, the unarmed black 18-year-old who was killed by an officer, was a suspect in a robbery prior to the incident.

Ferguson police chief Thomas Jackson has finally released the name of the officer involved as Darren Wilson and also released information Friday that allegedly describes Brown of stealing a $48.99 box of cigars from a local liquor store.

However at a press conference Friday, authorities have confirmed Darren Wilson had no idea Brown was a robbery suspect at the time.

The police officer had originally stopped Brown because he was walking in the middle of the street and apparently blocking traffic. There was an altercation or a struggle when Wilson confronted Brown before multiple shots were fired killing him instantly, according to police. Multiple witnesses say Brown held his arms up before the officer fired.

Following the released video surveillance and information of the robbery, multiple people including Brown's family were outraged and feel the police are attempting to justify the horrible act that ended the young life of Michael Brown.

"I can't believe this is the tactic they are using, bringing up a robbery to make the victim look like he was the person who created this whole mess," Laura Keys told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Police chief Jackson responded saying multiple media companies have been pressuring him into leaking the video and that by law he was required to make the information public. He then released the name of the police officer at the same time to officially make all the facts of the incident available.

The family of Brown and their lawyers released a statement saying there's nothing that can justify the murder of their son, as he was unarmed and ready to surrender.
