Matt Damon-starred blockbuster space epic "The Martian" is coming to Chinese cinemas on Nov. 25, five days after the launching of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2."

The Ridley Scott-directed film was a hit in the U.S., earning more than $140 million. It packed another $180 million from international sales, with U.K. figures accounting for $26 million and South Korea pouring in $22 million.
Producers are expecting to gain around $200 million by the end of the week. "The Martian" has already been released in France, making China and Japan the only two major markets left.
With "The Martian" depicting Chinese officials in important roles in the movie, it is expected to see a solid performance in Chinese theaters to the tune of $100 million. If so, the movie could hit the $400 million mark.
In the last two years, similar space-thrillers had made a good showing in mainland China. In 2013, Warner Bros.' "Gravity" grossed $70 million in the mainland, while Paramount's 2014 "Interstellar" earned $122 million, almost one fourth of its gross overseas earnings total of $487 million.
"The Martian" will be available in Imax 3D in China.
