American Music Awards (AMA) viewers were given quite a surprise Sunday night when performers Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor made out onstage after performing their new singles, "Like I'm Gonna Lose You" and "Marvin Gaye".

When the camera panned to Best Country Male winner Luke Bryan accepting his award, he couldn't help but mention the shocking kiss.

"Charlie and Meghan getting it on over there smooching. It rolled after the commercial break too," Bryan joked.

An insider shared that the kiss was actually planned and even practiced during commercials, and that romance isn't brewing between the two singers. In fact, Trainor's rep released a statement to Entertainment Weekly stating that the two are just friends.

The "All About That Bass" singer and "See You Again" singer have worked together last year when Puth made a cameo appearance on Trainor's video "Dear Recent Husband".

Puth shared earlier this year the he and Trainor met at a Hollywood Hills party.

"I played her a very early demo version of 'Marvin Gaye' and she memorized the song and sang it in the studio a week later. ... She's taken me on and introduced me to her fans - they call themselves the Megatrons, and they've kind of adopted me," he shared.

Puth was also supposed to take part in Trainor's concert tour this year, but she had to call off some of her appearances due to a vocal hemorrhage. Trainor has since successfully recovered from vocal cord surgery.
