The crowning of a new winner of Zimbabwe's 'Mr. Ugly' contest has sent the former winner and supporters rioting and accusing the victor of "not being ugly enough."

Mison Sere, 42, was crowned as the new winner of the 4th Annual 'Mr. Ugly' competition in Zimbabwe. However, according to AP, the former 'Mr. Ugly' title holder William Masvinu and his supporters do not agree with the judges' decision saying that missing front teeth does not make someone "ugly." They also said that he was not naturally born ugly.

"If you are missing front teeth it does not make you ugly, we need natural ugliness from birth," Masvinu said. For Masvinu and his supporters, Sere is "too handsome."

"I am naturally ugly. He is not. He is ugly only when he opens his mouth," he added, referring to Sere.

Masvinu has asked for the contest to be restaged because he believes that he is the winner and not a runner up. Masvinu landed second place during the latest edition of the competition. He has been defending the title since 2012. The former winner was not pleased with the outcome and even suggested to the organizers to change the judges.

"I did not lose and I am still number one, we need to redo the whole thing," said Masvinu.

One of the contestants Patrick Mupereki also questioned the judges' decision and even accused them of cheating.

"Do we have to lose our teeth to win? This is cheating," he yelled .

In another report, Sere, on the other hand, has expressed gratitude and and thanked the judges for choosing him as the new winner. He won a $500 prize.

"I want to thank God for winning this title and to thank also the judges for recognizing me as the winner," Sere said.  "Last time I came fourth and got nothing and today I thank my creator, God."

Meanwhile, the judges said that the event was successful.

Abigail Gwasira, one of the judges of the event, said that she and the other judges chose Sere by finding the "beauty in ugliness." According to her, that placed Sere above all other contestants.

"The name of the contest was Mr. Ugly and the definition of ugly according to the Collins dictionary is 'displeasing to the eye', and we were looking for something that was displeasing to the eye, so that was the criteria we were using and we were also looking for something that was unique," she said as cited by the Voice of America.

The organizers of the event apparently named the contest 'Mr. Ugly' to remove the stigma associated with ugliness.
