Pepsi has announced plans to avail it's first-ever touchscreen smartphone which is Android-based. The company has started a crowdfunding campaign to build awareness about the device and raise money for its production.
According to PC Mag, Pepsi is looking to raise about $470,000 in less than 10 days to crowdfund its branded smartphone.

Consumers from China can reserve the Pepsi Phone P1s for ¥999, this was confirmed by the soft drink manufacturer in October.
Pepsi P1 1080p handset is approximately 5.5-inch and will have a 1.7GHz MT6592 SoC, combined with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It also comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front shooter.
FoneArena rated the device on par with most modern phones on the Android-based operating system known as dido, as well as an aluminum unibody design. Pepsi's new smartphone features a fingerprint sensor on the back. It also supports 4G LTE connectivity and dual SIM card. The gadget comes in blue, gold, and silver.
While many have been wondering whether Pepsi is now going into the smartphone businesses, it was announced that the company is giving license to Chinese company Shenzhen Scooby Communication Equipment Co to manufacture the P1.
Pepsi Android 5.1 Lollipop based smartphone will come in two versions, the P1, which supports China Mobile 4G, and the P1S, which supports China Mobile 4G and China Unicom 4G.
Early bird products priced at ¥499 and ¥699 prices have already been sold out, folks can still pick up a P1 for ¥999 or ¥1,299. It will have protective cover, USB cable, and charging accessories.
According to the company's website, by Dec. 3, the project must reach ¥3 million or all ordered will be cancelled.
The company told PCMag last month that it has no intentions to enter into the mobile manufacturing business. Instead, the company said it is committed to engaging with customers in innovative ways to grow its brand.
Pepsi has experimented with branded tech before on several projects including the Social Vending System that lets users gift drinks to friends. The interactive touch-screen machine also highlights nutritional facts.
Unsurprisingly, this phone is only expected to launch in China, so it is likely to become a valuable collector's item.
