Asteroid Due to Hit in 2880 Can Wipe Out Humanity

(Photo : Wikipedia) The U.S. Congress just approved a space mining bill that will allow asteroid mining.
March 16, 2880 might just be the day humanity meets its demise.
A massive 1950 DA asteroid has a one-in-300 chance of colliding with the earth in 2880, causing earthquakes, drastic climate change and tsunamis which will likely wipe out the human race.
Although the chances of it hitting earth seem rather slim, the odds of it happening have prompted scientists to find a way of preventing the disaster.

The kilometer-wide asteroid will be travelling 33,800 miles per hour and will have a force of over 44,800 megatonnes of TNT.
Blowing up the asteroid might not be an option since it will also cause damage, so scientists are looking for strategies that will help safeguard the earth and all those who live in it against the impact of a potentially fatal alien force.
The University of Tennessee gave this statement: "Previous research has shown that asteroids are loose piles of rubble held together by gravity and friction. However, the UT team found that 1950 DA is spinning so quickly that it defies these forces."
The space matter is currently rotating every two hours and six minutes as is continuously soars through space at nine miles per hour. Its speed and force are unprecedented, which has led astronomers to conclude that the asteroid is "gravity-defying".
Astronomer Ben Rozitis of the University of Tennessee in Nashville said so far, the best way to divert the asteroid from the earth is through the use of a "gravity tractor".
A "gravity tractor", which is currently just a concept, will be a spacecraft that will be flying beside an asteroid, luring it with its own gravitational pull in order to steer the dangerous rock onto a new direction.
Hopefully, 35 generations will be enough for scientists to either come up with a solution.
