New interstellar map cracks stardust puzzle

Researchers have created a new map of the materials located between the stars in Milky Way that can crack the puzzle about stardust.
They said that the study demonstrates a new way of uncovering the location and composition of interstellar mediums, materials that are found between star systems within a galaxy.

This material includes dust and gas composed of atoms and molecules left behind by dead stars that supplied the building blocks of new stars and planets.
Rosemary Wyse from John Hopkins University said that scientist can't still figure out why stars form where they are.
This study can give us new clues about interstellar medium our of which the stars form, she added
Researchers focused in mysterious features coming from star lights like the Diffuse Interstellar Bands (DIBS).
DIBS are absorption features seen in the spectra of astronomical objects in Milky Way galaxy caused by absorption of light by interstellar medium.
There are 400 bands seen when looking at DIBS like ultraviolet visible and infrared wavelengths.
Researchers believe that analyzing the rainbow-colored bands of starlight that have passed through space can give insights to the makeup of the space materials that the light has encountered.
Concrete clues should emerge from the new pseudo-3D maps of the DIB-material within the Milky Way Galaxy, Wyse believe.
The maps were assembled from data collected over a 10-year period using the Radial Velocity Experiment or RAVE, she added.
RAVE is a multi-fiber spectroscopic astronomical survey of stars in the Milky Way using the 1.2-metre UK Schmidt Telescope.
According to Wyse, RAVE's survey supplied mapmakers with data of 500,000 stars, which resulted to intriguing results.
They found out that complex molecules that are thought to be responsible for the DIBS are distributed differently than dusts.
This study can demonstrate the location of DIBS and other Interstellar medium, Wyse believes
