On the 100th anniversary of famed physicist, Albert Einstein's publication of his renowned theory of general relativity, PBS and Nova have now created a show in celebration of his work, that gives viewers an idea about the genius of the man and the theory.

The show is dubbed as "Inside Einstein's Mind" is a one hour special that debuted last Wednesday, November 25 on PBS. This new show serves as a guide for viewers about the life of Einstein and his thought processes that led to him to publish this remarkable theory. "Inside Einstein's Mind" reveals how this theory did not apparently come as a sudden spark of inspiration but rather, years of hard work and challenges are involved in Einstein's process when it comes to understanding the universe.

According to physics professor Sylvester James Gates from the University of Maryland, the genius of Einstein lies in how he knew how to think hard, where Gates is also one of the many experts that are featured on the show.

Gates reveals how Einstein took almost 10 years to finalize his theory and oftentimes in movies, science is also portrayed as unrealistic, where scientists begin thinking up of theories for a year and then after a few months, they have the perfect solution. This is not how the real world works.

Fortunately, viewers do not require a hard time of thinking in order to understand Einstein's his theory of general relativity, as the show is using interviews with experts and physicists, special effects and even thought experiments to demonstrate how Einstein came up with the answers for how to ride a light beam or is time the same for everyone and the general concept of gravity.

This theory in physics known as general relativity describes how gravitational forces work. General relativity is also an advanced version of Einstein's theory of special relativity which is a precursor to this theory, explaining the relationship of space and time, where the famous equation E=mc^2 emerged from.

In this framework, general relativity is incorporated with gravity where this theory explains the inner workings of the universe that are applied in many scientific breakthroughs and discoveries including inventions that are used today, such as black holes, the Big Bang theory and even the GPS in mobile phones.

Apart from his scientific genius, the show also touches some of Einstein's biographical elements in his life like his strained relations with family and his migration to the United States during the 1930s. Gates describes the genius as a real person, full of flaws and imperfections where the show also highlighted some of the challenges Einstein faced, from peers, society and even himself, that almost kept him from publishing his theory of relativity.

Despite the challenges he had to face, Gates says that Einstein still managed to answer humanity's most fundamental questions, which are, what is this universe made of and how does it work.
