Robin Williams broke out his star with TV's "Mork and Mindy," so it comes as no surprise the Parkinson's disease-afflicted actor-comedian will be honored at the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards Show on Aug. 25 despite hate shown by the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Gene Simmons.
The Emmy Awards has been accused of botching celebrity death tributes in the past. Producers don't want to blow it this time given the sensitive nature of Williams' suicide at age 63. A statement issued by Don Mischer, Emmys executive producer, said show planners were working on a proper "In Memorium" segment.

Limbaugh and Simmons haven't weighted in on the plans, but both came under fire for criticizing Wiliiams in the wake of his death. Limbaugh suggested Williams killed himself because of his "leftist views." He came under criticism for that sentiment, then walked back the comments saying he had been misquoted by liberal media.
Simmons said people threatening suicide should just kill themselves. He apologized Friday for that comment.
Mischer ultimately is in charge of the Emmys TV presentation. He said fellow producers were just coming to terms with the enormity of Williams' suicide. Everybody hoped to present a meaningful and proper tribute to the star who came to fame on TV before diversifying to movies and other artistic endeavors. Williams won two Emmy Awards while being nominated eight times.
The In Memorium segment showing stars and industry professionals who have died in the last year has become a staple of the awards show genre. The segment sometimes has proved controversial with people closely scrutinizing who is remembered, how they're remembered and who is left off the tribute.
Producers typically change plans at the last minute given a celebrity death. For example, the Grammys provided a special tribute to Whitney Houston who died the day before the show was broadcast.
Williams was battling depression and other demons when he killed himself. His wife, Susan Schneider, issued additional information following his death saying he had recently been diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson's disease, a nervous system disorder affecting movement and functionality.
