Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft Corporation is apparently set to unveil his new initiative to develop clean energy technologies which is also the world's biggest funding to date, at the Paris Climate Change Summit on Monday.

This fund will also include contributions from other philanthropists and other major commitments from many world leaders as well. This partnership is slated to be the biggest effort in history, focusing on research and developing clean energy resources and technology and can hopefully speed up a solid pact during the UN climate summit in Paris that will last for two weeks.  

This particular fund will involve commitments from a group of developed and developing nations that include the United States, China and India, that will double the budget for this in terms of research and development of clean energy, forming a coalition for joint work. According to Environment & Energy Publishing, this is just the beginning of a broader effort to show how clean technology research and deployment will be the major key in meeting climate goals in Paris. 

During the Paris Summit, world leaders should be able to meet a consensus to enact policies in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This transition will not be sudden as this will require some major technological and scientific breakthroughs along with crucial investments in renewable energy such as wind and solar power. Developing nations are also pushing for higher commitments from developed nations when it comes to these new energy sources.

Last June, Gates apparently said to French President François Hollande that these upcoming Paris climate talks should come up with a deal involving robust provisions for clean energy research and development.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is also one of the world's largest philanthropic organizations however, the foundation has not been investing in clean energy initiatives until now. The organization mainly focuses on education, poverty alleviation and medical programs but Gates also invested in ambitious energy technologies before with a goal in mind to reach zero carbon emissions in the next 30 years. One of these included a nuclear energy company called Terra Power that focuses on utilizing used uranium to fuel smaller sodium cooled nuclear power plants.

Gates believes that zero carbon energy should be focused on more than ever, where nations should be able to fund more than double or even triple the few billion dollars that are allotted for clean energy research and development every year.
