Chadian soldiers liberated 85 Nigerians from the hands of Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram, according to reports on Saturday.

Last week, Boko Haram took 97 young Nigerian men and women from their homes in Doron Baga and villages surrounding the shores of Lake Chad. The abduction, which started late Sunday and ended on Monday, resulted to burned homes and 28 deaths.

The hostages, composed of mostly young men, several boys, and some women were loaded onto motorboats going to Chad.

Residents feared that their children and family members might be forced into Boko Haram's army of terrorists. The female hostages, however, are to become wives or slaves, according to authorities.

On Saturday, a convoy of buses carrying a heavy load of passengers raised suspicion among Chadian troops on patrol. It was halted near the border along Lake Chad, an unnamed source said.

According to reports, the convoy was being led by at least six Boko Haram members. But no reports on an armed conflict between the rebels and soldiers or capture of the six insurgents surfaced.

The 85 rescued Nigerians were composed of 63 males and 22 females, a National Human Rights Commission official confirmed. The rest of the abducted Nigerians are believed to be with the rebels who traveled by boat.

The terrorists sensed that trouble was upon the convoy and sped away, according to a source who refused to be named.

The Boko Haram group has been creating terror in Nigeria for five years to date. According to experts, its main goal is to create an Islamic State in the northern part of the country.

The group's most infamous criminal act was the abduction of 230 school girls in April, which started the campaign #BringBackOurGirls. A series of abductions of young Nigerians ensued, bringing Nigeria into a constant state of fear.
