Panoramic view during your flight? It's now possible with windowless airplane.

Technicon Design, a Paris-based design company, just won recently an award for their IXION Windowless Jet Concept.

The company's idea is to provide passengers a 360-degree view by using cameras mounted on the exterior of airplane in order to capture the surroundings and after that, project the sceneries on high-resolution screen on the interior cabin walls and ceiling.

Technicon Design's IXION jet aims to provide passengers a feel of riding a see-through jet.

IXION jet could really display any scene on the interior of the plane like the clouds and the ocean.

The solar panels on the exterior of the airplane would help power the displays.

Removal of windows is also advantageous as well. It reduces the materials and cost needed and the weight of the airplane as well. It allows a greater flexibility of the interior design of the aircraft as well.

“The user experience is greatly enhanced by directly engaging the passengers with the environment outside, to the point of exhilaration by giving an unhindered panoramic view from the inside,” said in a press release of Gareth Davies, Technicon's Design Director.

The parallax barrier technology they used allows the passengers to view different sceneries all at the same time on same screen.

IXION jet would include Minority Report-like feature which allows the passengers to use hand gestures in controlling the displays, personal TVs, and cabin environment.

Gareth also said that the ethos of their project is to challenge the current thinking and propose something different but still workable. He said that it should be credible and relevant but still provoke discussion.
