Mad Max

(Photo : PlayStation Blog) Become Mad Max, the lone warrior in a savage post-apocalyptic world where cars are the key to survival.

Mad Max: Fury Road just got the film of the year plum at the recently concluded National Board of Review for 2015, putting it at an even better stake for the 2016 Oscar race.

The biggest winner, nevertheless, is The Martian, which won three awards, including Best Director for Ridley Scott, Best Actor for Matt Damon, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Drew Goddard.

Brie Larson, meanwhile, brought home the Best Actress prize for her role in Room, while costar Jacob Tremblay won the Breakthrough Performance honor, together with Abraham Attah from Beasts of No Nation.

The Hateful Eight bagged two awards: the Best Original Screenplay for Quentin Tarantino and Best Supporting Actress for Jennifer Jason Leigh. Sylvester Stallone won the Best Supporting Actor for Creed.

With Mad Max's NBR win, many begin to wonder if it could make it to the Oscars. In fact, an NBR win does give 100 percent guarantee for a film to win the Oscars. Since 2000 on two NBR Best Film awardees have snatched the Oscar trophy for Best Picture twice: No Country for Old Men in 2007 and Slumdog Millionaire in 2008. Last year's NBR winner, A Most Violent Year, failed to get a best Best Picture nomination.
