There are several rumors surrounding the upcoming Apple iPhone 7, including talks that it will feature a USB Type-C port, which the company put on the MacBook.
Android handsets are expected to shift to Type-C next year and if there is a potential that smartphone charging may be unified. Apple might just ditch its Lightning port. However, this could pose a problem for owners of devices with Lightning ports and accessories, which were only released in 2012.

Meanwhile, iPhone owners might also have to ditch their 3.5mm headphone jack known as the Earpods. According to reports, the upcoming iPhone 7 will have a different headphone port which would need Bluetooth wireless headphones or Lightning plugged ones. This will supposedly allow Apple create an even thinner iPhone.
There have been a lot of complaints about the Apple iPhone's short battery life and difficulty in gripping, but if Apple makes the upcoming model an even thinner one, between 6 and 6.5mm thick, it could still be a problem. There are rumors about wireless charging support as well. However, it is still unclear whether Apple created its own or the device will be compatible with wireless charging standards available in the market today.
Apple already introduced the multi-touch feature with gestures like "pinch to zoom" in its previous phones and now it is allegedly testing a 3D Touch technology integration on its upcoming mobile device. Other rumors about the iPhone 7 include a water resistant case which is said to be less susceptible to contaminants and that it could have a global launch in Fall of 2016.
Some rumors claim TSMC might be the exclusive A10 manufacturer for Apple in a bid to create distance from its main competitor, Samsung. This could have advantages technical-wise but could also have disadvantages such us delays should TSMC run into unforeseen problems.
