Israel would disagree to any truce proposal to solve the Gaza conflict in the Cairo talks if it does not meet Israel's security needs, said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday.

Israel warned Hamas that they are undeterred by Palestine’s threat of a long war and told Hamas that it would receive harsh strikes if they continue attacking the Jewish territory, Netanyahu added.

Netanyahu told Hamas not to underestimate Israel’s resolve to battle on. He also said that if there is a clear response to their security needs they will agree to reach understandings, Reuters reported.

Israel had strengthened its stand and established inconceivable demands regarding security issues. The Palestinians would review the situation and would give their answer on Monday, a Palestinian official told MENA, Egypt's official news agency.

In response to Netanyahu's remarks, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said the only way to achieve Israel’s security is for them to first agree to the Palestinians’ demand of lifting the Gaza blockade.

Reiterating their commitment to the Egyptian proposal, the main priority is to stop the war, the killings and the destruction in the Gaza Strip, U.S.-backed President Mahmoud Abbas, a member of the Palestinian delegation in Cairo, said in a statement.

Azzam al-Ahmad, the Palestinian delegation head, said he was confident that both parties could reach an agreement. They have high hopes that a permanent ceasefire, before the truce end, will happen soon, reports said.

According to some reports, in the five- day truce extension which will expire on Monday night, both parties went back to Cairo aiming to end the month-long conflict in Gaza strip that left more than 2,000 people dead.

There is still a wide gap between Israel and Hamas, however, they are both open in reaching a long-term or permanent ceasefire that would keep the peace in both nations, reports said.
