RadioShack chief marketing officer Michael Tatelman said that Cannon, whom the company noted was a successful and multi-faceted artist, is a tech-savvy and innovative person who's really smart and creative. He and the company believes that Cannon will help RadioShack grow.

In the company's press release, it is noted that the “Drumline” star has been a lifelong fan of RadioShack. It started when he was 8 and he went to a nearby RadioShack seeking for help in repairing his grandfather's radio. Since then, he has pursued a creative interest in electronics.

Cannon said that he is proud to be part of RadioShack. Since the retailer has helped him learn, he wants to give back be helping other kids learn and move to a higher notch by being RadioShack's Chief Creative Officer.

The newly-hired chief creative officer has already started promoting the retail chain. He'll be helping in the selection and display of merchandise, and in spotting trends in the market.

CNN Money reports that Cannon will also have a role in developing their line of educational and S.T.E.M. products, which are meant to help foster learning in science, technology, engineering and math (hence the term S.T.E.M.).

Earlier this year, RadioShack declared bankruptcy and had thousands of stores closed. The retailer has been struggling to stay afloat, and its remaining stores share space with Sprint.

By getting the “Wild N Out” star onto the board, RadioShack can say that they're back in business.
