Nicknamed "The Fearless", the Heilongjiang native came back from a 3-5 deficit to win three straight frames en route to the exciting finish.

"I'm very happy," Liang said, as reported by Xinhuanet. "Tom played well and made a very good clearance to go 4-2 up. There was a lot of pressure but I kept playing and did well. I really focusing on the last three frames. I'm looking forward to playing Marco."

Ford, 32 years old and a native of Leicestershire, England, started strong with a 2-0 lead. Liang managed to level the count at 2-all, but the Briton again took two straight frames to go up 4-2.

Both players then won a frame in the next two to make it 5-3 in favor of Ford before Liang pulled off the powerful finish to capture the well-deserved victory.

Liang also had a come-from-behind win in the round-of-32 when he rallied from 1-4 down to beat former world no.1 Judd Trump, 6-4, after winning five frames in a row.

Meanwhile, BBC Sports reported that Ford "accused" Liang of "being boring", which is said to be the reason behind his downfall.

"He is the most boring player I have played this season," said Ford. "He was so slow. Every time he got to the table he took so long. When I did come back I felt I had not been there for half an hour."

Ford said that he was "disappointed" at the way he lost, saying that if he had "got played off the table" then it would be "fair enough", but "to get bored off the table" is simply upsetting.

"I don't like slow play. I actually heard a few people behind me saying they were bored," he ended.
