Authorities from Thailand have affirmed the legitimacy of a leaked police letter cautioning the country about fortuitous terrorist attacks by the militant group ISIS.
Colonel Krisana Pattanacharoen, spokesman of the Police Deputy, said "I can confirm that it's a letter issued by our Special Branch."

The leaked memo allegedly forewarns law enforcement personnel in Thailand to tighten security in several areas following a precaution from Russian Federal Security Service. It stated that intensified surveillance should be carried out on "target areas that Russian authorities are concerned about."
Classified as "Urgent" and dated on November 27, the report that was circulated around police units, reveals that 10 Syrians made their way into the country between Oct. 15 and 31 and have connections with the terrorist group IS.
Further detail revealed that four of these are in seaside city of Pattaya, two in Phuket, two in Bangkok, but the location of the last two cannot be confirmed yet. Also, police officers still have no idea about the possible suspects, their identities or plan and target.
"The document is real... The original communication was by word of mouth between Russian and Thai police. I don't know how the document leaked," said an international crime police officer.
"We are 100 per cent confident about what we have done so far," Krisana said. "We have not only deployed more personnel, but also increased the exchange of information with our intelligence units."
Meanwhile, Police Lieutenant General Sanit Mahathavorn acknowledged that the purported IS operatives have not been found but "police officers will be vigilant."
"We have learned from our experience of the bomb attack at the Ratchprasong Intersection earlier this year," he stated.
Despite saying that the possibility of a terrorist attack is low, security analyst Anthony Davis urges the country to remain alert as precedents were noticed since the 1990s.
"There has been, particularly in recent years, a steady drumbeat of attempts at terrorist operations in Thailand. The last one horrifically successful," he said.
