The Freeman 78-year-old Oscar winning actor was on his plane en route Texas. The actor is slated to shoot there for National Geographic's "The Story of God."
"Sometimes things don't go as planned and a tire blew on take-off which caused other problems," Freeman said.
The actor was all-praise to his pilot, who managed the situation well and ensured they landed unscathed.
"But thanks to my excellent pilot Jimmy Hobson we landed safely without a scratch. I cannot say the same about my plane. I appreciate the concern and prayers for our safety," he said.
According to Bill Luckett, Mayor of Clarksdale, Mississippi, and Freeman's friend, the plane had to make an emergency landing in Tunica after it flew from Clarksdale Saturday. The plane needed to burn off fuel before landing, Luckett continued.
The plane went off the runway after landing in Tunica around 5 p.m. local time, the mayor revealed.
He also said that the people on board the plane - Freeman, the pilot, and two others - were alright. Another plane is slated to fetch Freeman to take him to Houston.
The extent of the plane's damage remains unclear.
Federal Aviation Administration officials revealed that Morgan was riding an Emivest SJ-30 aircraft and that it encountered "mechanical problem."
Freeman, who has been acting since the 1960s, is best known for his immortal performances in such films as The Shawshank Redemption and Driving Miss Daisy. He earned five Oscar nominations and won best supporting actor for Million Dollar Baby. He was also honored with the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards.
