What was a festive summer weekend in Harlem turned deadly when a gunman pulled up and opened fire at a group of people, killing two aspiring rappers, the police said.

The aspiring rappers, identified by the police as Kenny Jimenez, 21, and Francisco Mercedez, 19, were chatting with eight other people when the gunman arrived and suddenly opened fire in front of the Fedel Gourmet Deli in Harlem at past 2:50 am.

Witnesses said the victims, who were aspiring rappers fresh off a performance in the Bronx, died on the spot while the gunman fled the scene after the shooting.

Authorities said Jimenez was hit in the neck while Mercedez died due to a gunshot wound in the back. NO arrest has been made as of this posting, the police said.

Witnesses said the shooting happened so fast. When the gunman started shooting, people fled in different directions except for the two rappers who were both on the floor, bathe in their own blood.

“I covered my ears when I heard the burst of gunfire and when I turned around, I saw two people on the floor,” said one witness.

The death of the two rappers capped a night of shooting spree that injured people in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens.

The shooting spree started at 10pm in East Harlem's Jefferson Park, when a gunman opened fire at three teenagers who were enjoying barbecues and parties.

Three people were hurt in the incident.

At 3 am, another shooting incident occurred at Van Buren St and Lewis St, injuring one person, the police said.

Three hours later, four people were injured when two gunmen unloaded more than a dozen rounds in Queens.

Resident said the shooting spree is traumatizing and feels like they are living in the hood.
