Stonehenge: 'Second Hand Monument' Originally From Wales Not England

Scientists found new evidence that the bluestones used to create the Stonehenge first orginated from a different monument in Wales and not in England.

A team from the University College of London led by Mike Parker Pearson uncovered some crucial evidence from a dig site in Preseli Hills in Pembrokeshire. The archaeologists used radiocarbon dating techniques on the campfires from thousands of years back, where they discovered that the holes that are cut into the rocky outcrops for the stones were apparently made hundreds of years before the Stonehenge was erected.

These holes date back to 3,400 to 3,200 B.C. where as the Stonehenge was only erected in Wiltshire some 2,900 years ago. Pearson revealed that the "first" Stonehenge was originally located in Wales and that the Wiltshire Stonehenge is a second hand monument. He adds, this is one fantastic discovery that would not be normally possible.

Now, this can suggest new theories about the origins of these historical monolithic monuments however, since there are too many, some can become more rational than others, and based on the time the Stonehenge was created, the wheel has not yet been invented, where new studies have shown that it could be possible that these colossal stones were moved using rolling logs or "sleighs".

Most theories and arguments are also based on ancient knowledge how ancient megastructures such as the Egyptian pyramids and the Moai heads of Easter Island, could be built with the help of God-like aliens, like a gift to humankind.

Other theories involve that the Stonehenge was used as a concert hall of sorts, as its archaeoacoustics produced a cool sounding field, where Stonehenge people used to perform and watch music among these monoliths.

The unique shapes and sizes of the rocks are often thought to produce excellent acoustics that can enhance and amplify sounds of voices and instruments that can even transform into audio illusions used for celebrations and rituals. This can be similar to the strange sensations of sound when one enters a cathedral.

Some scientists believe that the Stonehenge was made to form ancient team building exercises since ancient workers are subjected to extreme schedules entailing them to work away from their homes and families. Pearson adds that the construction of the monument was a symbol of unity, since it demanded a huge working force for labor.

Another theory suggests that the Stonehenge was also used as an observatory and unlike modern day ones, the arrangement and alignment of these stones could hold clues how ancient people used to track the movements of the sky.

There is a horseshoe shaped opening near the center of the monument that faces a northeastern direction where it could mean that the designers wanted the monoliths to align with the sunrise and sunset during winter solstice.

Apart from this, radiocarbon dating also revealed animal remains near the Stonehenge where pigs are slaughtered every December or January annually that suggests a ritual for this point of the equinox.
