FIVB World Grand Prix: Turkey, Russia Claim Spots in Final Six

Turkey ensured their slot at the top six by winning against Italy, while Russia moved past Germany at the FIVB World Grand Prix on Sunday.

Turkey would not be denied of the final six spot as Neriman Ozsoy partnered with team captain Gozde Sonsirma and the duo converted multiple attacks to win, 25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23.

Brazil, China, Turkey, Belgium, Russia, and Japan completed the list of finalists who will make their way to the final stop of the World Grand Prix tour in Tokyo, Japan.

Sonsirma saw an opportunity to take the set after a defensive stop. The momentum continued in the second set as Sonsirma continued her streak of attacks over the net to put them in the lead at 2-0.

Italy's Valentina Diouf, who led her team with 24 points, stepped up in the third set to boost the morale of their team. But the Turkish side snuffed the fight out of the Italians as they closed out the fourth set to take the match

Sonsirma top scored for her team with 20 points, 17 points coming from attacks and three points from blocked shots followed by Ozsoy with 18 points, 15 points from spikes and three points from service aces.

In the other match, Russia would not be denied of their spot in the final six, showing their experience in the latter part of every set, 27-25, 26-24, 26-24.

Turkey and Russia, who accumulated 16 points apiece, are tied in third place behind Brazil and China to give them a place at the final six.

Turkey hopes to perform better in the World Grand Prix, having finished third in 2012 while Russia is in pursuit of another gold medal since winning the tournament in 2002.
