Kings starting point guard Rajon Rondo is reportedly set to stay in Sacramento for the long-term while it is also anticipated that he will receive a max or close-to-max offer from the California franchise as the league's salary cap explodes next season.

Sporting News' Sean Deveney indicated that the 2008 NBA champion "really might get a max contract next summer", citing an anonymous Eastern Conference general manager as his source.

"I don't know whether he will quite get the maximum, mostly because we don't know what the max is going to be," an East executive said, according to Deveney. "But there is going to be a lot of money on the market and only a handful of players who you would really say are max guys. If Rajon were to keep playing the way he's been playing, if he is not getting the max next year, it'll be close."

The 29-year-old four-time All-Star is currently averaging an impressive 12.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 10.9 assists in 22 games playing a little over than 35 minutes per night under George Karl's system. His 10.9 apg is presently leading the league, showing that he is indeed one of the league's most elite floor generals at the moment.

Rondo, who is known for being a hard-headed, uncoachable player, has been quite valuable to the Kings this season that even the team's best player, DeMarcus Cousins, is adamant that he wants him to stay with the team no matter what.

"He ain't going nowhere. I will kidnap him myself," Cousins said when asked if there is a chance Rondo would go elsewhere next summer, as per CBS Sports.

Meanwhile, Yahoo Sports reported that Rondo, Cousins, and head coach Karl reportedly had a "powerful" two-hour meeting recently that polished everything between the three of them.

"It was a powerful meeting for all three of us," said Rondo. "What I love about (Karl) is he's very open. George is not a dictator. If you can come into a meeting with no egos and everyone was humble, it just works out for the better."

Rondo, who is also a former Kentucky Wildcat like Cousins, is set to become an unrestricted free agent by the end of the season as he only signed a one-year, $9.5 million contract with the Kings in July this year.
