Amber Heard, the wife of Johnny Depp, will appear in an Australian court soon to face charges filed against her for bringing two Yorkshire terriers into the country illegally.

Newser reports that Heard, 29, has pleaded not guilty to her lawyers on Monday. The trial is scheduled for next year, the Guardian reports.

"I respect the importance of Australia's laws," the actress said in a statement. "My decision to defend these charges, as will become apparent in the appropriate forum of the court, is not intended to in any way diminish the importance of Australia's laws. I look forward to attending the hearing of these matters."

As reported by Newser few months back, Johnny Depp's wife was accused of sneaking her dogs into Australia in April. Heard was charged with two counts of illegally importing the Yorkshire terriers and providing false documents. Depp and Heard brought their dogs into the country via a private jet but failed to declare them on the passenger manifest, secure a permit and quarantine them.

The terriers, Boo and Pistol, were shipped back to the U.S. under threat of euthanasia. Australia takes the offense seriously as it may spread rabies and other diseases.

Meanwhile, her husband may attend the trial, according to the lawyers. However, he doesn't want his presence to cause any disruptions during the trial. The judge called that a bit of understatement considering Heard's husband is Johnny Depp.

Heard may face up to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $102,000 if she is found guilty of illegally importing animals into the country. It is still unclear if Depp will be called as a witness.
