FIBA World Championships: Mix of Veterans, New Blood Make Argentina's Campaign A Must-Watch

A combination of veteran hardcourt warriors and young blood comprises Argentina at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.
Led by coach Julio Lamas, the team is promising as ever through the help of NBA players Andrés Nocioni and Luis Scola.
Scola proved to be worthy of a spot in the team when he helped Argentina in a losing effort to Yugoslavia in 2002. Since then, the power forward became the team's main man as he often carry the country on his back every summer except 2005.

Four years ago, Scola was highlighted in the country's win against rival Brazil scoring 37 points and 9 rebounds in a 93-89 win.
Last year's FIBA Americas Championship served as a proof of his dominance. The 34-year-old averaged a total of 18.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Scola recorded 28 points and 7 rebounds to secure a spot to the World Cup against the opposing team, Canada.
Another Argentinean key player is Andres Nocioni who had an excellent performance with Laboral Kutxa in Spain. Nocioni had averages of 16.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 blocks per game with the team during the 2013-2014 season.
Its young players are also the studs to watch out for. Facundo Campazzo shows a glimpse of how exciting the next generation of Argentina basketball can be.
The young point guard will definitely complement with Pablo Prigioni as he can provide the same quality of game at the position. Last year, Campazzo served as the country's second leader on offense in Venezuela.
Shooting guard Selem Safar is also a threat in this year's tournament. Safar is ahead of the 12 points per game average shooting a sweet 46.7 percent from beyond the arc.
Argentina was able to bag an Olympic gold medal in 2004 but is still hungry with a world title. The closest they had was in 2006 when Nocioni missed a potential buzzer-beater 3 against Spain.
With these men, Argentina will represent a team poised with competitive fighting spirit, basketball prowess and confidence.
Can the Argentineans make a strong campaign in the World Cup? One thing is for sure, it is going to be an exciting year for one of the most prosperous teams in basketball.
