Indie film producer and writer Eric D. Wilkins offered a rendition of the new Die Hard film which he wrote in an open letter last November 20 addressed to Bruce Willis and the management of the film in The Hollywood Reporter.

He tossed a scenario on John McClane's younger days being irrationally imprisoned from murdering a sex trafficker while young McClane in 1979 is in prison; a riot was set up by a terrorist organization exploded and would open up on how his Die Hard spirit unfolds.
The Scottish comic book writer Marc Millar (Marvel Knights Spider-Man, Ultimate Fantastic Four and Kick-Ass) connected with Wilkins' idea and added to it his own concept. Millar wrote, "I think the genius of Die-Hard is staying simple and getting him into that situation as quickly as possible. It's a third act spread over THREE acts...This is a movie I just want to see."
Wilkins as a Die Hard fanatic disclosed to Gawker that his idea is unlikely to be executed. He added, "Would I love the opportunity to get in a room with those guys and really talk in detail about my idea? Absolutely. But realistically, this is going to trend for a couple days, and then I'm going to back to doing what it is that I do." He also added that his pitch is not meant to be a "wacky get-rich scheme" and that he only intended to publicize his concept to people involved in the project.
American film director Len Ryan Wiseman, known for his work in Underworld series, Live Free or Die Hard and Total Recall has been sent back to take the helm for the collaborative sequel (more like a prequel).
