July 25th, the 70th Venice Film festival has revealed its complete 2013 lineup. Taiwanese director Tsai Ming-liang's new film "Jiaoyou (Stray Dogs)" is the only Chinese film, which will vie for the coveted Golden Lion in Venice this year. Chinese director's film "Massage" was once seen as the most potential dark horse to become a candidate in this year's Venice Film festival. Unfortunately, the film "Massage" hasn't completed yet. Besides, Chinese director Wang Bing's film "Feng Ai (till madness do us apart)" is out of competition this year.

Tsai Ming-liang is Malaysian Chinese and one of the most celebrated "Second New Wave" film directors in Taiwanese filmdom, along with earlier contemporaries such as Hou Hsiao-Hsien and Edward Yang. His films have been acclaimed worldwide and have won numerous film festival awards.
Tsai Ming-liang's film honors include a Golden Lion (best picture) for "Vive L'Amour" at the Venice Film Festival in 1994; the Silver Bear-Special Jury Prize for "The River" at the 47th Berlin International Film Festival; the FIPRESCI award for "The Hole" at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival; and the Alfred Bauer Prize and Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Achievement for "The Wayward Cloud" at the 2005 Berlin International Film Festival. In 1995, he became a member of the jury at the 45th Berlin International Film Festival. In 2003, he was voted by UK newspaper "The Guardian" as No.18 of the 40 best directors in the world.
This year's lineup includes films directed by three Oscar-winning directors: Hayao Miyazaki with an animated film about a Japanese fighter plane designer; Errol Morris with a documentary about former U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld; and Poland's Andrzej Wajda with a movie depicting the life of Solidarity leader Lech Walesa.
