Jeff Gordon won the Pure Michigan 400 Sprint Cup Series as he snatched the lead from Joey Logano during the final 17 laps of the race.

Gordon's win is his third one for the season, tying him in the lead with Dale Earnhardt, Jimmie Johnson and Brad Keselowski as the Chase of the Sprint Cup nears.

"Our Chase has already started," Gordon told reporters following his victory over Kevin Harvick for his 91st career victory and first at Michigan since 2001.

Meanwhile, despite his loss on what was supposedly his third win of the season, Logano remained positive after three top-five out of four races.

"We can win a championship," Logano said. "That's the message I want to put out there. I think we showed that today. We're close. We still have got to keep working hard. We've got to find that next level in three weeks to be this strong in the Chase. But we're in the hunt."

Logano led 86 out of 200 laps which is the fastest recorded in NASCAR's series.

Three of the top five spots in the race went to the engines of Hendrick Motorsports, but it was not as prevailing as it was in June, with Keselowski saying that the race was a "year behind."

"I don't think we're a year behind," Logano responded. Though the competition is not as advanced as it should be, Logano believes that it is slowly getting there.

Meanwhile, Gordon is on a winning streak, leading two of his four races despite being in an unpreferred lane.

Team owner Rick Hendrick said Gordon's experience is finally showing, as the race car driver barely makes any mistakes.

"Certainly things are going well. I'm as shocked as anybody else," Gordon said.
