Veteran actor and motivational speaker Wayne Lai admitted that there were times in his career when he wanted to give up acting and simply work at a grocery store or even sell fish balls.
"During different phases in my life, I have thought about giving up. The first time was when I was five years into my career. My contract had just ended [with TVB] and my career growth was inconsistent. Sometimes, I was a supporting actor and other times, I was an extra," Lai shared.

Despite all the difficulty, Lai said that acting is his passion, and that if it was only about money, he would have truly looked for another career path.
He believes his career as an actor is God's plan for him, even though there were times that he felt he didn't do as well as he thought he could have.
For the majority of his career, Lai was a TV extra and took on supporting roles. Under the guidance of producer Lee Tim Shing in 2009, the actor got his big break when he landed the lead role in the critically acclaimed "Rosy Business", which gave him the success and popularity he truly worked hard for.
Since then, the actor has won the TVB Best Actor award three times, and is hoping to be the first to win the said award four times.
The star shared that his persistence and determination often allow people to easily identify with him, sharing that if he found success, anyone can when given the right opportunity.
