Girls Scouts Korea announced on Dec. 11 that the organization selected the boy group "because we believe that their various charms, talent, as well as healthy and active images fit the concept of Girl Scouts."

Girl Scouts Korea usually gives the honor to highly influential artists that could serve as role models to teenagers. Before MONSTA X, celebrities like Rain, Epik High, Girls' Generation, f(x), CNBLUE and B1A4, were appointed as the organization's ambassadors.

The group, formed just this year by Starship Entertainment, has seven members: Shownu, Wonho, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Jooheon, and I.M.

But aside from being role models, MONSTA X is also a name to reckon with in the music industry. The group was hailed as the hottest upcoming group of the year after bagging the MelOn Music Awards and Mnet Asian Music Awards.

They will serve as Girl Scouts Korea's ambassadors until 2017, joining the organization in their various causes to promote the potential and strengthen capacity of each Girl Scout in the country.

The group is slated to join in the appointment ceremony at Seoul Women Plaza in Seoul on Dec. 16 at 4pm KST.

The members were scouted in Nov. 2014 with the survival program titled No Mercy. Members screened and trained to perform either in a group or as an individual, starting off with 12 trainees until the final group lineup of seven members was announced in Feb. 2015.

According to Starship, "Their group name MONSTA X contains the double meaning of monsters conquering the K-pop scene and my star (MON means "My" in French and STA means "star" in French). X symbolizes an unknown existence."
