Los Angeles Lakers newcomer Lou Williams is reportedly on the trading block once the trade restriction for newly-signed free agents expires on December 15 as the Lakers starts to prepare for a future without superstar Kobe Bryant.

SB Nation projected three "potential Lakers trade candidates" as the trading period starts in three days and the 2015 NBA Sixth Man of the Year is one of the players included in the list together with Nick Young and Brandon Bass.

The report said that with "Los Angeles heads toward another lost season, the team will certainly explore the idea of shipping off some excess parts they've accumulated with an eye on the future".

Williams had been playing within his standards that won the league's bench player award last season. He is currently averaging 13.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 26.5 minutes a night through 20 games, which is more or less the same from his past averages in Atlanta and Toronto despite playing lesser minutes in L.A.

The 29-year-old, 10-year veteran still commands interest because of his plays, but the main issue the Lakers have with him is that he and Young are basically playing the same position, which is redundant in Byron Scott's rotation.

If Young is not dealt first, then chances are it is Williams who will be traded.

Atlanta is reportedly open to bringing back Williams in their fold as they "have a logjam in the frontcourt and could part with one of their backup bigs" to push through a deal with the Lakers.

Memphis is also a rumored player as they are projected to "send an asset to the Lakers and a role player" to acquire Williams. The Grizzlies are said to be desperately in need of perimeter firepower and the former South Gwinnett standout will definitely bring that to the table.

Basketball Insiders reported last month that Scott is "being patient" with Williams' adjustment to his offense, but it remains to be seen how long the coach's patience will be.
