(Photo : REUTER) Jaycee Chan (L) and Taiwanese movie star Kai Ko were arrested in Beijing Thursday for use and possession of marijuana. Police found some 100 grams of the drug inside Chan's home when he was arrested.
Jackie Chan’s son Jaycee was arrested and detained in Beijing for possession of marijuana. Police found at least 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of the illegal drug in his house at Beijing’s Dongcheng district when he was arrested along with his friend Kai Ko, a Taiwanese movie star. Both tested positive for use of marijuana.

In a statement on Weibo by Beijing’s Public Security Bureau Monday evening, it said police officers detained a number of suspects for drug use last Thursday in Dongcheng District, including a 32-year-old Hong Kong actor with the surname Chan, and a 23-year-old Taiwan actor named Ko. The two later turned out to be Jaycee Chan, also named Fang Zuming, and Kai Ko.
Beijing police also said Mr. Chan, also a singer, had allowed others to take the drug at his house. A third man, named only as Mr Song, was arrested for dealing the drugs found at Mr Chan's house.
Jaycee Chan and Kai Ko are the latest additions to a growing list of celebrities that have been recently targeted for drugs by the Chinese police. Last week, Beijing police said they had detained the Chinese actor Gao Hu, 40, for possession of methamphetamine and cannabis. He was the ninth celebrity to be arrested for drugs in the last six months.
News of Jaycee Chan’s arrest could be an embarrassment for his father, Jackie Chan, who five years ago had signed up as a "Narcotics Control Ambassador" of the Chinese police. The older Chan has lucrative advertising contracts in China and has repeatedly voiced his support for the Communist party.
Shanghai Entertainment News says that Jackie Chan had previously counselled his son not to spend time with Kai Ko for reasons previously unknown.
Jaycee Chan was born in Los Angeles and was enrolled in a university in the United States, but dropped out and concentrated on doing some films. Many of the films flopped in the Chinese box office, and one of them, Double Trouble, reportedly grossed only US$9,000. He also starred with his father in Jackie Chan's 100th movie, which got the worst reviews in the latter’s movie career.
In April 2011, Jackie Chan said he would not bequeath his fortune to Jaycee and instead donate it to charity.
"If he is capable, he can make his own money. If he is not, then he will just be wasting my money," Jackie Chan had said.
