For those who are wondering how to create a real life Death Star, one NASA engineer recommends finding an asteroid first.

The Death Star is made popular from the Star Wars film trilogy where this planet-like structure reveals the menacing Dark Side. The Death Star is apparently the size counterpart of our moon which is considered by fans as an engineering feat which is also twice destroyed by rebels in the films.

According to NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory chief engineer, Brian Muirhead, the best way to construct a Death Star is to use an existing asteroid and not via launching material off a planet. Muirhead says that an asteroid is the ideal foundation for a Death Star since it can already provide all the materials like metals, organic compounds, water which can essentially become the building blocks to build a Death Star.

Apparently, building Death Stars from thin air is impossible, where its blueprints of the Empire are based upon.

The scientist-engineer is also working on NASA's Asteroid Redirect Mission which is also the first ever mission that will detect any near Earth object especially asteroids where the space agency will extract a portion of the asteroid, to haul it back to lunar orbit. This asteroid mission is scheduled for 2025 where NASA will send a manned spaceflight to the moon, as astronauts will collect samples from the asteroid for further study.
