2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid Costs $28,645; EPA Rating 47 MPG

Once it hits the market next spring, the 2016Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid will cost $28,645. The price already includes the $875 destination charge, but excludes tax, license, title, dealer fee and other optional equipment.

Chevrolet claims that the 2016 Malibu has an EPA rating of 48 miles per gallon in city driving and 45 miles per gallon on highway. The car uses a hybrid drive unit that was modified and taken from the second-generation Chevrolet Volt. It also has a MyLink radio and a 7-inch touchscreen that can control the cars infotainment system. It is also integrated with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

In a statement acquired by the Detroit Free Press, Chevrolet marketing director for cars and crossovers Steve Majoros said, "The Malibu Hybrid leverages knowledge and technology directly from the second-generation Chevrolet Volt."

The 2016 Malibu Hybrid has a handful of standard equipment installed. These include 10 airbags, push-button start feature with passive entry and cruise control. The car also sports the new Ecotec 1.8-liter hybrid and direct-injected engine is paired with two-motor electric drive unit.

The hybrid car features several safety technologies. Among these are front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist and low speed front automatic braking. Another new feature is called Teen Driver, this enables parents to turn off or mute any audio and paired devices within the vehicle when the front-seat occupants are not wearing their seatbelts.

The Teen Driver feature is also the first in-vehicle feature that allows parents to view driving information of their teenage kids when they drove the vehicle.

The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid was first unveiled at the 2015 New York Auto Show. The 2016 Malibu Hybrid is the first full hybrid car to wear the Malibu badge.

According to Christian Science Monitor, once it hits the market, it will go head-to-head with the Ford Fusion, Kia Optima, Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata.
