Online retailer Amazon is suspending the sale of some devices on its websites. The suspension will take effect in the United States and the United Kingdom. Many shoppers were shocked finding out that the two-wheeled personal transportation device called hoverboard was part of the gadgets Amazon is taking off its shelves.

Amazon's decision to suspend the sale of hoverboards came in after a series of explosion and house fires connected to the device. The online retailer said that it has already asked all hoverboard manufacturers to provide necessary documentation and that their products follow all applicable safety standards.
Reports claim that the sudden surge of hoverboard popularity has opened the floodgates to dozen of importers. Some importers get these hoverboards or some of its components from manufacturers in China.
For now, Amazon's US website only banned hoverboards made by Jetson or Razor. The list of also includes several other accessories. Razor recently purchased the US patent of self-balancing and handle free scooter from investor Mark Cuban and engineer Shane Chen.
Amazon's UK website made similar changes on the list of their hoverboard products and related accessories. For now, the only hoverboard product available is the one from Smartrax. It appears that the same safety concerns levied on Amazon's UK and US websites were not applied to the company's India website.
In a statement provided to The Verge, Swagway said, "Swagway already meets all those certifications and is happy that Amazon has decided to take steps to weed out the low quality boards. As safety is always on the forefront for Swagway, we're glad that this is taking place, especially in light of recent concerns with the fires with the poor quality batteries."
Reports claim that the quality of the battery installed on these hoverboards is the main culprit that causes sudden combustions, especially the ones used on low-quality and cheap scooters.
