Caroline Wozniacki rallied in the final two sets to shrug off a slow start against qualifier Timea Baczsinsky, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, in the first round of the Connecticut Open.
The four-time champion of the New Haven tournament confessed that the qualifying games the Baczsinsky played had helped her along the way.

"I have to give her credit, she started out well," Wozniacki said. "I felt pretty good out there. It just took me a while to get started."
Wozniacki held her opponent through several rallies in the later sets to win the match.
"It took me a few games to get used to new balls and a faster court," Wozniacki said. "But I felt like I was getting stronger as the match went on. My confidence was high. I was in a great place mentally."
Canadian Eugenie Bochard needed 52 minutes to beat Bojana Jovanovski, 6-1, 6-1, in the other first-round match. The third-seeded player Bouchard returns to top form, leading 5-0 in each set against unseeded Jovanovski.
Garbine Muguruza of Spain eliminated seventh seed Sara Errani of Italy. She has been knocked out in the first round in two of her last three tournaments, with her third loss out of her last four matches. Muguruza won in straight sets.
Samantha Stosur also won over Kurumi Nura, 7-6, 6-7, 6-2. Former U.S. Open winner Stosur blew three set points in the second set tiebreaker, with the fifth being the definitive point that won the match.
Qualifier Shuai Pen of China beat Elina Svitolina of Ukraine 6-4, 6-3, while Barbora Strycova Zahlavova of Czech Republic defeated qualifier Belinda Bencic of Switzerland 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
