The eighth and final season of the series was released on June 11 but it still has not aired on BBC America.

"There may well come a time when we re-visit "Law & Order: UK," ITV's Drama commissioning director Steve November said. "For the moment we'll be resting the series whilst we continue to refresh our drama slate."

"Law & Order: UK" was created by Dick Wolf who casted Bradley Walsh, Ben Bailey Smith, Peter Davison, Georgia Taylor and Dominic Rowan on the show.

The cancellation of the series came simultaneously with Walsh's announcement that he will be leaving his role after the show's eighth season.

"Eight series is a wonderful achievement for everyone involved in the production," Walsh said.

Walsh, who plays the role of Ronnie Brooks, said leaving the show was one of "the hardest decisions" he had to make, but he wanted to branch out and pursue different projects being produced by ITV.

BBC America has not yet announced whether or not "Law & Order: UK" Season 8 will be shown in the States.

The series premiered in 2009 and raked in nearly seven million viewers, but decreased a bit on its second season.

During season three of the show, the number of viewers dipped to five million and was brought into an all time low of four million viewers during its fourth season.

The shows season five showed an increase in the number of viewers at over five million and almost six million viewers tuned in for the sixth season.

However, the numbers dipped to less than five million during its seventh season and went down further on the eighth season with an average of 4.3 million viewers per episode.
