(Photo : YouTube Screenshot) Dubbed the '5th Space', China's new state-of-the-art toilet offers not only commodes but also a mini-mart, a vending machine, an ATM and a charging stating for electric vehicles.

The advent of technology has led to the creation of luxurious toilets in China. This development has attracted both praise and criticisms
from netizens. While some people were happy that the ramshackle state of a number of comfort rooms has finally been restored, others say  the improvements were nothing but a waste of resources.

"The government puts out its hands and asks people to pay taxes. Why don't they donate that money to poor neighborhoods instead?" a former farmer who lived near Fangshan said.

The comfort rooms in Fanshang have become a popular stop-over following the installation of mini-marts as well as vending machines, an ATM and a charging outpost for electric vehicles.

The hi-tech washroom has gone beyond its sole purpose as many people pay a visit hourly and others even hang around to watch promotional videos about the environment that are featured in flat screen TVs found in every cubicle.

The newly designed, plush toilet conserves resources by reusing water from sinks to flush toilets, providing two separate bins for used papers and plastic bottles, segregating urin from feces to utilize use of water by 90 percent, and providing a common roll for users.

Also, Fangshang's restrooms, unlike conventional public toilets in China, offer a choice between squat or Western sitting style commodes that are separated by dividers and doors on stalls. An who cleans the stalls right away after use. A family washroom is even available with diaper changing tables, high chairs to hold infants, and potty training-like toilets.

The designer of the lavatory planned various designs for the toilets including installing solar panels so that human waste is immediately managed and treated to be used as fertilizers.

Dubbed as the "5th Space," this is just the one of the many soon-to-rise ultrageneration facilities the country plans to build. China's office of tourism intends to put up as much as 57,000 public comfort rooms in the entire nation, but now all of these will be similar to Fangshang's state-of-the-art facility.
