Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie to Shoot ‘By the Sea’ in Malta

A-list royalties Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are swooping down in Malta to shoot their new movie, "By the Sea."

Sources confirmed that the Mgarr ix-Xini beach in Malta, located south of Sicily, will be the background for the celebrity couple's first movie together since they starred in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" in 2005.

Local newspaper, The Malta Independent, recently published a report, in which officials said the beach is scheduled to be closed to the public for three months from Aug. 18 to Nov. 10 in time for the film's shoot.

Two structures are being constructed on the premises - one on the beach and the other on a cliff situated on the beach's opposite side.

Malta's Prime Minister Joseph Muscat was previously quoted in saying that "By the Beach" is going to be set in Gozo, the country's largest island.

In July, Muscat told US Weekly that the country is "delighted" to play host to the couple and their family of six.

"I'm sure that this film will help put our beautiful sister island of Gozo on the world map," Muscat said.

It wasn't the first time that Pitt visited Malta for a film shooting. Pitt's two recent films, 2004's "Troy" and 2013's "World War Z" were both filmed in the European country.

Aside from starring in the film, Jolie wrote the script and will direct the film, with Pitt also attached as a producer. Pitt's Plan B Entertainment is most recently known for producing the Oscar Award winning "Twelve Years a Slave" and HBO's "The Normal Heart."

The plot details for "By the Sea" are still under wraps, but insiders told The Hollywood Reporter that the movie is a character-driven drama and that Pitt and Jolie, who are engaged in real life, will get married on screen in the film.
