Miss World Philippines 2015 Hillarie Danielle Parungao believes that the ongoing rift between China and Philippines over the South China Sea (West Philippine Sea) did not affect her chances in today's pageant. Spain's Mireia Lalaguna eventually took home the crown, with Parungao placing in the top 10. Lalaguna and Parungao also won the Top Model and Multimedia award, respectively.

According to Rappler, Parungao remains confident that the Miss World organization would not allow the misunderstanding between the two countries to cloud their judgment.

"I don't think they would really allow such an issue to interfere with the friendship of China and the Philippines. I don't think there will be any cheating," she said.

In other news, Telegraph reported that Lalaguna wowed the judges during the Q&A segment of the competition. The top 5 finalists, Spain, Russia, Indonesia, Lebanon and Jamaica were given 30 seconds to answer the question, "Why you should be the next Miss World?"

The 23-year-old professional model from Barcelona answered that she deserves to be the winner because she has always believed in Miss World's ethos Beauty With A Purpose. She added that she wanted to continue its legacy.

"I think I should be the next Miss World because I believe in strong women, I also think I have something inside my heart that I always try to give the best of me. I also believe in Beauty With A Purpose and want to continue its legacy," she remarked.

Russia's Sofia Nikitchuk and Indonesia's Maria Harfanti came in first and second runner-up, respectively.
