Charli XCX Flies YOLO Flag on New Single ‘Break the Rules’

Electro-pop newcomer Charli XCX gave her fans an advance look at "Break the Rules," the latest track off her second album.

"Break the Rules" is an ode to the YOLO lifestyle. In it, the 22-year-old sings about rebelling against The Evil Norm and planning on how to paint the town red.

"I don't wanna go to school. I just wanna break the rules / Going to the discotheque / Getting high and getting wrecked," Charli XCX sings in the track, which is already streaming on SoundCloud.

Charli, whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison, took to her Twitter early Monday morning to announce the news about her new album, writing "2nd album is SUCKER. New song is BREAK THE RULES."

Previously, the singer updated her fans on the social media site, in which she asked her followers, "Are you ready angels?" alongside a link to an Instagram photo of herself floating in a pool with a giant lollipop.

Charli released her first album, "True Romance" in 2013, but 2014 was her year. She co-wrote and sung the hook on Iggy Azalea's summer hit song "Fancy" while her single "Boom Clap" from the "Fault in Our Stars" soundtrack rose to the No. 10 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in August.

She's nominated for Video of the Year, Best Female Video, Best Art Direction and Best Pop Video for her "Fancy" collaboration at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. Charli's also up for the Artist to Watch award alongside newcomers 5 Seconds of Summer, Sam Smith, Fifth Harmony and Schoolboy Q.

The young singer also announced that she is going on tour starting Sept. 6 in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The tour will last until October, just in time for the release of Charli's second album.

Charli's second major-label album "Sucker" is scheduled to come out on Oct. 21 on Neon Gold/Atlantic Records.
