Can the Randy Couture-Fedor Emelianenko Showdown Finally Happen? “Natural” is Still Open

Randy Couture

Retired UFC champion Randy Couture is still willing to face Fedor Emelianenko in a bout at Metamoris.

Couture was not able to land the fight he wanted a couple of years ago when Emelianenko signed with M-1 Mix Fight organization instead of coming to the UFC. The man went on to retire stating no interest to fight anyone other than the man tagged as the best MMA fighter in the world.

In an interview with Submission Radio, "The Natural" stated that he is still open about fighting "The Last Emperor."

"That would be interesting and certainly given the time to prepare and get back up into good, solid grappling and wrestling shape, that would be a lot of fun," said the 51-year-old fighter when asked if a submission wrestling match will be put into consideration.

Couture is not going to be the first mixed martial arts star from the UFC to compete at Metamoris. His former teammate, Chael Sonnen, fought against wrestling world champion Andrew Galvao. Couture almost filled in Sonnen's spot when the Nevada State Athletic Commission tried to stop "American Gangster" by threatening him to make him pay $250,000 per failed drug test.

UFC guys Josh Barnett and Dean Lister also went toe-to-toe at the same event.

The retired UFC champion also stated that if Fedor is willing and is still in shape, they can make the fight happen.

Emelianenko dominated the World Combat Sambo Championships for almost a decade and is considered as a tough challenge for Couture. The big question is, can Metamoris afford the price of getting this fight a done deal? This super fight between two legends will definitely catch the attention of MMA fans.

Couture is a Greco-Roman wrestler and grappler with classic fights against top mixed martial arts contenders like Vitor Belfort, Tito Ortiz, and Chuck Liddell.
