After Microsoft's announcement that "Rise of the Tomb Raider" will be exclusive on Xbox, Xbox head Phil Spencer told Eurogamer that the exclusivity was "not evil."

Following the public's objection that the game will only be available in one platform, Eurogamer released a copy of the discussion it had with Spencer about the deal.

"I get the reaction I see," Spencer said regarding the fans reaction to the exclusivity deal. "If I'm a PlayStation person all of a sudden I feel like, the franchise has gone. I didn't buy the IP. I didn't buy the studio. It's not mine."

Where the deal is going, Spencer said he had no idea and urges the game's fans to just see what happens with the game.

When Eurogamer asked Spencer about the length of the deal, the Xbox head said that the deal will only be for a specific period which he was not at liberty to discuss because "it's a business deal between us and them," Spencer said.

Spencer also daid that the exclusivity contract did not come from an "evil space." He admitted that they were expecting people to have different reactions when the deal was announced.

Spencer told Eurogamer, "It comes from a space where there's an opportunity that maps really well with what we need in terms of the genre, and a partner that's looking for a partnership."

Though there are those who are not in favor of the exclusivity, Polygon's Ben Kuchera said the main goal of a publisher is to find a deal that will generate the most profit for a game.

A deal which stipulates lower payment of royalties and development investment would help lessen the cost of a title for "Tomb Raider's" developer Square-Enix, Kuchera added.

Spencer pointed out that the deal aims to make Xbox better.

"I just want gaming on Xbox to be great. I'm not trying to push gaming down on any other platform," he said.

Spencer added that the deal was not meant as an attack to any specific consoles, it was just an opportunity that came at the right time.
