The lifetime achievement award is the highest honor SAG bestows upon actors and, is only given to one individual every year who embody "the highest ideals of the acting profession".
SAG president Ken Howard referred to Reynolds as "a tremendously talented performer with a diverse body of screen and stage work".
Howard continued to praise her by saying that her performances have touched the lives of many, effortlessly moving audiences from around the world "from laughter to tears and back again".
Although the actress is best known for her role in Singin' In The Rain and, her role as Grace Adler's mother in the sitcom, "Will and Grace," few people know that the actress started her career at a very young age, when she was spotted by a studio executive when she won Miss Burbank at the age of 16.
All she had really wanted to win from the contest was a blouse and a scarf. Little did she know that aside from the top and accessory, she would also go on to star in more than 50 movies.
Reynolds was nominated for an Academy award for playing lead in the 1964 movie-musical, "The Unsinkable Molly Brown".
The actress believed she was going to retire by 1979, so she established a Hollywood facility where artists like herself could rehearse. Cher, Johnny Depp and Michael Jackson were said to have used Reynolds' facility.
Fortunately, Reynolds was wrong about retiring in 1979 and, continued on acting and singing. Her most recent movie was the 2013 flick "Behind the Candelabra" wherein she played Liberace's mother.
In a 2011 interview Reynolds shared that she intends to continue performing until she "kicks it".
