As part of Chinese President Xi Jinping's campaign against corruption, the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) has issued a warning Wednesday on all government officials to not waste public funds on lavish celebrations during the upcoming New Year and Spring Festival.
In a circular, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council general offices urged public officials to observe austerity and "follow the time-honored party's discipline" and China's stance against wasting government funds.

Under the circular, government officials are banned from throwing lavish parties and banquets, and spending obscene amounts of money on travels and gifts during the occasions.
The circular also ordered government officials not to spend on New Year cards, fireworks, and private trips.
Instead of expensive merry-makings, the public officials were ordered to expedite the release of the allowances of those affected by disasters, the underprivileged, the disabled, and the elderly.
As a precaution, the Party also authorized concerned agencies to conduct extensive inspection of hazardous facilities to prevent any untoward incident that may happen.
The circular also called on local leaders to make sure that consumer prices are stable and that there is enough supply of power and daily provisions for the mainlanders in time for the holidays.
The Chinese police will be on high alert during the occasions and will conduct a massive crackdown on domestic terrorists as well as dissidents and take measures to prevent terror attacks.
Over the years, the Chinese government has punished thousands of officials and bureaucrats who were found to have committed massive corruption during their public office tenure.
The punishments ranged from office termination to a life sentence for those who were found guilty of the crime.
When President Xi assumed his position in 2013, his first order of battle was to eradicate corruption in the government.
President Xi then strictly gave marching orders to the concerned agencies to step up their anti-corruption drive and rid the bureaucracy of thieves.
